Because the ZENworks Configuration Management architecture is radically different from the traditional ZENworks Desktop Management architecture, you cannot perform an in-place upgrade of ZENworks Desktop Management to ZENworks 10 Configuration Management. However, ZENworks 10 Configuration Management provides a set of tools, called the ZENworks Migration Utility, to help you migrate much of the configuration data from previous ZENworks products.
In this training module, we will familiarize you with the ZENworks Migration Utility and the process for migrating a traditional ZENworks environment to ZENworks 10 Configuration Management. Before migrating data to ZENworks 10 Configuration Management. Novell recommends running pre-migration database queries that list objects that might cause problems during migration or might need additional work after migration, and we will step you through this. In class you will install the ZENworks Migration Utility, and then use the utility to migrate the ZENworks Desktop Management objects on the lab DA-ZDM server to the ZENworks 10 Configuration Management zone (DA-ZONE) on the DA-ZCM server. The last task covered in the migration process is to use ZENworks Desktop Management to push out the ZENworks Adaptive Agent.
In class emphasis will be put on the migration best practices to help you avoid common mistakes and to best prepare you for a successful migration. We will also review what is and what is not migrated when moving from a ZENworks Desktop Environment and start to identify differences in the products. There are many good Novell recommendations we want to share with you from the experience and lessons learned as we are working to move our install base to ZENworks Configuration Managment. This course will best prepare you for a successful migration.
